It’s hard to resist cracking your spine when your back is starting to feel a little sore. A little twist and some snapping, cracking, and popping sounds later, you feel momentary relief. But is cracking your spine a really good solution to a sore or painful back?

What happens when you crack your spine?

While you may feel momentary relief when you crack your back, the cause of your sore back remains unresolved and possibly result in more tension and/or problems. Joints contain gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide. When you crack your back, that’s the sound of the joints releasing these gases.
